Up the hill there is the spectacular Star Castle Hotel. Built in 1593 during the reign of Queen Elizabeth 1, the star-shaped fortification was the last stronghold of the Cavaliers and has sheltered many a king. The Castle remains unchanged apart from the interior furnishings. There are two restaurants, an accomplished fine dining Castle restaurant and the less formal seafood restaurant, The Conservatory. Wine is taken very seriously here and the huge selection spans fine and rare classics from Burgundy and Bordeaux up to modern new world wines and a large choice of halves.
